MOSCOW, RUSSIA / RankWire.AI / – Russia anticipates that its 2026 grain output will reach approximately 140 million tonnes as farmers approach the final phase of the harvest season. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev stated that farmers had already gathered over 126 million tonnes of grain. As of October 2, they had threshed about 90% of the cultivated area. In addition, officials forecast the country will harvest about 35 million tonnes of oilseeds this year.

The most recent data indicates an increase from early September when Russia’s grain harvest stood at 113.5 million tonnes. Oilseed collection has now reached nearly 15 million tonnes. In the organized agricultural sector, farmers have also harvested close to 4.5 million tonnes of potatoes and a comparable volume of vegetables. Russian officials noted that yields across most crop types are exceeding their 2025 levels as field operations continue across producing regions.
According to the Ministry of Economic Development, Russia has issued a slightly revised 2026 grain forecast of around 141.8 million tonnes. Rosstat’s reported harvest for 2025 was 141.2 million tonnes based on its territorial calculations. During an April government meeting, Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut announced a 2025 total of 144.6 million tonnes, describing it as the third-largest grain harvest in the nation’s history. In 2024, Russia harvested nearly 130 million tonnes of grain.
Final stage of harvest campaign underway
Patrushev commented that the harvesting pace aligns with the government’s current projections for major crops. The Russian government continues to support farmers through measures introduced during the autumn field season. Authorities allocated approximately 10 billion rubles to subsidize transportation from key grain-producing regions. Furthermore, grain export duty payments have been suspended until the end of 2026, and export duties on vegetable oil and meal have been capped at August levels.
According to officials, winter sowing has surpassed the halfway point of the planned area. They have urged regional authorities to monitor planting progress closely, especially for winter grains. The Agriculture Ministry previously indicated that farmers intend to sow more than 19 million hectares with winter crops. It has also emphasized the importance of maintaining farm supplies of machinery, seed, fertilizer, and other essential resources for seasonal agricultural work.
Grain production levels remain near recent historical highs
Recent harvests in Russia continue to be large by historical standards, with about 143 million tonnes produced in 2023. The record was set in 2022 with a harvest of 157.676 million tonnes. The current forecast of 140 million tonnes is below both of those figures but still above the nearly 130 million tonnes collected in 2024. The final 2026 grain total has not yet been announced, as harvesting persists in several regions.
This year’s campaign underscores the extent of Russia’s overall crop output. Alongside grain, the government expects oilseed production to reach around 35 million tonnes in 2026. Farmers continue harvesting vegetables and potatoes as regional field work concludes. Simultaneously, officials are advancing winter planting for the upcoming agricultural cycle while farmers complete the remaining 2026 harvest. The government’s official projection remains at 140 million tonnes for this year.
