    European Industrial Output Stagnates in June Amid Mixed Member State Results

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – According to Eurostat, industrial activity within the European Union experienced a 0.2% rise in June 2026, while the euro area’s production remained flat compared to May. These figures, seasonally adjusted, followed a 0.3% monthly growth in both regions during May. When comparing to June 2025, production increased by 0.1% in the euro area and 0.6% across the EU. The data showed varied movements across key industrial sectors and member states. The report covers industries excluding construction and uses seasonally adjusted data for monthly comparisons.

    In the euro zone, non-durable consumer goods saw the strongest monthly increase with a 3.0% rise. Energy production grew by 1.5%, while output of durable consumer goods edged up 0.3%. Conversely, capital goods output declined by 1.4%, and intermediate goods decreased by 0.8%. These changes resulted in the overall industrial production index remaining steady at 98.7, based on a 2021 reference of 100, unchanged from May. In May, non-durable consumer goods increased by 3.3%, energy by 2.6%, and capital goods by 0.5%.

    Within the EU, non-durable consumer goods production grew 2.5% in June, with energy output rising 1.0%. Durable consumer goods advanced by 0.9%, while capital goods fell 0.9%. Intermediate goods output declined 0.7% compared to May. The EU industrial production index rose to 101.0 in June from 100.8 in May. It was 99.2 in January and experienced five consecutive monthly increases through June.

    Significant disparities emerge across member states

    Among EU countries with available data, Denmark posted the highest monthly growth at 5.4% in June. Croatia followed with a 5.2% increase, with Lithuania and Finland each rising 2.1%. Luxembourg recorded the largest monthly decline at 10.7%, while Portugal decreased by 3.9% and Estonia by 2.2%. Germany saw a 0.2% rise, France remained unchanged, Italy declined by 1.0%, and Spain decreased by 0.7%. Ireland experienced a 2.0% increase, whereas the Netherlands fell 1.7% and Slovenia declined 2.0%.

    On an annual basis, industrial production within the euro area grew by 0.1% in June. Intermediate goods increased by 0.4%, energy by 0.9%, and capital goods by 0.1%. Conversely, durable consumer goods dropped 2.5%, and non-durable consumer goods decreased by 0.5%. Across the entire EU, total output was 0.6% higher than in June 2025. Intermediate goods rose 1.0%, energy grew 0.3%, and capital goods increased 0.9%, while both consumer goods categories experienced declines.

    Lithuania leads annual industrial growth among member states

    Lithuania recorded the highest yearly increase among member states with available data, reaching 7.7%. Denmark followed at 6.1%, and Poland saw a 4.9% rise. Finland increased by 4.6%, Hungary by 4.1%, and Czechia by 4.0%. Luxembourg faced the steepest annual decrease at 7.9%, with Romania dropping 5.6% and Estonia falling 4.6%. Germany and France each declined 0.5%, Italy fell 0.6%, and Spain rose 1.0% compared with June 2025.

    Eurostat also revised its initial estimates for May’s industrial production figures released on July 15. The euro-area monthly change now shows a 0.3% increase, previously reported as a 0.2% decline. The EU’s monthly figure was adjusted to a 0.3% gain from an earlier 0.1% fall. The annual output for May was also revised to a 0.1% decrease for the euro area and a 0.6% increase for the EU. Eurostat derives regional figures from seasonally adjusted national data and accounts for missing recent observations when compiling overall estimates.
